Biography

Originally from New Zealand and raised in Hong Kong, I first discovered glass in 1995 through an evening class in Adelaide, Australia — and was instantly captivated. That early spark led to a City & Guilds qualification in the UK, laying the groundwork for a commercial stained-glass practice. Over time, I taught myself fusing techniques and ran a successful glass studio, deepening my skills through hands-on experience and long-term commissions.

Fast forward 30 years into my practice, I returned to study as a mature student — completing a BA (Hons) in Glass and Ceramics at UCA Farnham in 2025. That decision marked a turning point, opening new ways of thinking and making, and allowing me to push my work in fresh, contemporary directions while remaining rooted in heritage craft.

My practice now blends traditional stained-glass methods with modern processes such as lampworking, fusing, and casting. Recent work explores the integration of three-dimensional cast forms into stained glass panels — bringing sculptural presence and subtle innovation to a historically two-dimensional medium.

Alongside my studio practice, teaching forms an essential part of my work. I divide my time between the UK and Aotearoa New Zealand, sharing skills across hemispheres and working to preserve and evolve traditional glass techniques for future generations. I am a member of the Heritage Crafts Association, the Contemporary Glass Society, and GAS (Glass Art Society), reflecting my commitment to both safeguarding endangered skills and engaging with the wider international glass community.

Through workshops, mentorship, and collaborative initiatives — including taking skilled UK artists to New Zealand to share cross-disciplinary approaches — I aim to build creative bridges between heritage and contemporary practice, and between cultures connected through glass.

Based in Bognor Regis, my studio is where commissions take shape, limited collections are created, and workshops are held for those curious about the expressive possibilities of glass. My work is held in public and private collections worldwide. Whether creating a bespoke panel or sculpting in glass, my aim is always to make something that resonates — quietly, clearly, and with lasting beauty.
